What is a doula?

A doula is a professionally trained support person for birthing mothers and partners.  A doula does not provide any clinical tasks but is there to support the mother physically, emotionally, through advocacy, and by providing information.  A birth doula meets with you before birth, is there continuously throughout birth, and visits postpartum.
